Make the First Move pt 4 – Three Important Questions

We’re back for the final instalment of Making the First Move. Missed ‘Making The First Move’ so far?  Here’s how you can:

Ready for move #4? Let’s get going.

This Week’s Move: Three Questions That Cut Through the Fog

The widespread electric and telecoms outage in Portugal on 28 April 2025 allowed me to pause and reflect, offline, and without the noise of daily business (if you missed it, I share the experience and insights on how to build a business that operates without you here). So, let’s recreate that: Go get a coffee (or your beverage of choice), pen and paper, and spend 30 minutes without your laptop, phone etc. Sit somewhere where you feel inspired and reflective. Then ask yourself:

What do I want my business to give me in the next 12 months?

  1. Money?
  2. Time?
  3. Freedom?
  4. A saleable asset?

Be totally honest.

If I keep doing things the same way, what’s my business likely to look like in 12 months?

Sorry in advance. This one can be frightening illumination. It will sting, but let it.

What would I do if I could start over today?

Would you sell different services? Hire differently? Charge more? This isn’t fantasy; it’s a critical diagnostic of your current situation.

These aren’t abstract questions. They’re strategy. Because clarity is a lever. And once you have clarity, prioritisation gets easier. That’s when the momentum starts.

That’s the end of my 4 part serious on Making the First Move. It’s scary, it’s brave and it’s necessary – in the end, it’s worth doing it.

Have you hit a block on any of the steps? Remember step 1 – you’re not alone. If you’d benefit from a soundboard with me, let’s jump on a video call together and work out your first move.
